Marka bull masks are made from hardwood and copper and brass sheeting. Their elongated faces are often more or less covered with metal.
The Marka are a Mande subgroup whose settlement region extends from the north of the Bamana (southwestern Mali), to the Senegalese border. Along the Niger River, the Marka use their masks in ceremonies related to fishing and farming.
